Help Making Money

Every time I listen to NJ Chris Christie I want to stand up and salute. Today is no different.

Please watch this 4 minute video where Chris Christie blasts LeRoy Seitz, Superintendent of Schools for the Parsippany School District about Seitz's threat to leave the state if his salary is reduced to $175,000.

NorthJersey.com has more details in Governor sets sights on Seitz contract

Last week the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education voted 6-2 to renew Superintendent LeRoy Seitz's contract, which included a 2 percent per year salary increase.

What made the contract noteworthy, aside from the dozens of people that spoke out against it and the tongue lashing the Board and the Superintendent received from Gov. Chris Christie was that the contract Seitz is currently working under doesn't expire until July 1, 2011.

The Board began contract negotiations during the summer, at about the same time the Christie administration released information about a plan to cap chief administrator's salaries and tying the numbers to the enrollment in the district.

By finalizing the contract now the Board effectively agreed to give Seitz a salary well above the governor's proposed cap for almost five years.

At the Board meeting Mark Tabakin, the Board attorney, told the gathering of about 90 people that the cap is still in the proposal form, that the contract was approved by the County Executive Superintendent Kathleen Serafino and that it is a legal action. "People are upset," he acknowledged, "but it's up to the will of the Board."

The controversial contract drew township residents and protesters from as far away as Clifton and Hackettstown, who were outraged over the Board's end run around the proposed cap.

At times the dissenters were so vocal Board President Anthony Mancuso, who remained calm and in control throughout the proceedings, had to call for a 10-minute recess to let the outbursts subside. The police were also called during one of the breaks though they never had the need to take action.

When the public was allowed to speak the floodgates opened. Taking a sarcastic tact the first speaker Roman Hoshovsky said, "How can anyone be expected to live on $200,000?" Then he produced an empty canister and proposed using it as a collection jar in businesses around town to raise money for Seitz.

Barbara Hackling pointed out the Board had laid off teachers and refused to negotiate with the paraprofessionals, "but found money for him."

Karen Blunt, a 36-year Parsippany resident and a paraprofessional in the district said, "He is looking out for his future. I haven't had a raise in 4 years who is looking out for my future?"

The day before the meeting Seitz is quoted in the Daily Record as saying, "Because of the proposed salary caps, I have to look at my future and the financial welfare of my family. I certainly would have options if I didn't feel the compensation in this district, or New Jersey, is appropriate."

The governor reacted to Seitz's veiled threats to leave New Jersey and go to a nearby state where there is no state salary. "I will say in response to Mr. Seitz, 'Let me help you pack.' We have real problems in our state that we have to fix and we don't have the time, nor the money, nor the patience any longer for people who put themselves before our citizens," Christie railed.
I Applaud LeRoy Seitz

A tip of the hat goes to LeRoy Seitz for being such an arrogant SOB that that the meeting to discuss the new contract overflowed with citizens fed up with school board greed.

It is not easy standing up to thugs who want nothing more but to raise your taxes. But the voters did. That's how riled up they were.

I recommend voters in the Parsippany School District send a message to the ignoramuses who agreed to give LeRoy Seitz a new contract. Vote them off the school board.

Fortunately it takes approval from another level to agree to that raise, so the raise is not a done deal yet.

New Jersey taxpayers are fed up, and rightfully so. If LeRoy Seitz thinks he can get $212,000 elsewhere, more power to him. The same holds true for every public "servant". If you can get more in the private sector, shut up and do it.

We see you out there — the future musicians of the world, pouring coffee, mixing drinks, designing websites for shifty moving companies, all the while dreaming of making it big: signing to a label, cutting a record, reaping the benefits that only a throng of gaping groupies can herald.

While not all of you will make the proverbial “Big Time” — we can’t all be Lady Gaga, nor should we strive to be — that doesn’t mean that you can’t reap some monetary benefits for your musical labor.

Jeff Price, founder of TuneCore, recently wrote on the company blog: “More musicians are making money off their music now at any point in history… Technology has made it possible for any artist to get distribution, to get discovered, to pursue his/her dreams with no company or person out there making the editorial decision that they are not allowed ‘in.’”

We would tend to agree (with the caveat that such openness has also led to a more crowded music scene, with more bands fighting for the public’s attention — but that’s a post for another day).

If you want to start seeing some payback for all your hard work, you don’t have to wait around for a label exec to catch your jazz flute set at the local coffee shop and catapult you to stardom. There are a ton of services out there that can help you make some cash, while also gaining exposure and experience.

class='blippr-nobr'>Mashableclass="blippr-nobr">Mashable spoke with folks from a quartet of such services in order to help you, the artist, devote more time to your lute than those lattes.

Note that none of the below are get-rich-quick schemes, so it might be wise to hang onto your day job — even if it is designing graphic tees for tiny dogs.

Go Into Show Business

Service: Jingle Punks

We know, we know, the moment a song makes it into the commercial, it’s an immediate sign that a band has “sold out.” But, c’mon, guys — do you really want your favorite drummer/banjo player/keytarist working in a taco trunk in order to survive? Yeah, thin may be in when it comes to the indie scene, but musicians need to eat, after all.

That’s why services like Jingle Punks can really be a boon to bands. Jingle Punks — which is basically the Pandoraclass="blippr-nobr">Pandora of music licensing services — focuses on providing filmmakers, TV networks, media companies and ad companies with music from up-and-coming bands. Band and Punks split the earnings 50/50.

“We work in a very smart but unsexy part of the music business,” says co-founder Jared Gutstadt. “Most artists tend to spend their time focusing on the old standards of how to ‘make it.’ They’re still thinking about record deals, pub deals, merch, touring. To really stand out and compete with this type of competition you need to be thinking about launching a music career in a much more unique way.”

Why Use This Service?

According to Gutstadt, “Music in film and television is a great way for artists to get the word out there. More importantly, you can generate money to help fund the growth of a band’s musical endeavors.”

In addition, the service makes use of the democratic nature of the web to get your music into the right hands. “In the past, the way people used to pitch music for media placements is that they would mail CDs off to as many music supes or producers they could,” Gutstadt says. “We have removed the giant pile of CDs on peoples’ desks and aggregated them into a user-friendly database organized in a dynamic way.”

What’s the ROI?

According to Gutstadt, money made runs the gamut. “It can be anywhere from $250 for a web placement all the way up to $30,000 for getting music in a commercial or motion picture,” he says. “, you make money over time through royalties paid out by BMI and ASCAP, who are able to track usage. I always tell artists its not a get-rich-quick scheme as much as it is a way to make some money over time off your hard work.”

So Who has Succeeded?

“We work with an artist named Mike Del Rio (see above) and his music was used in a rebranding effort by the History Channel.  The channel has really embraced Mike and Jingle Punks and has a couple things in the pipeline that could do great things to really help launch Mike Del Rio’s career on a more mainstream level.

“We also work with a really great band called I Love Monsters, and their music was placed in the season premiere of Entourage. This type of exposure can be great for an up-and-coming band.”

Collaborate

Service: Indaba Music

We’ve seen instances of bands forming partnerships through Twitter and the like, but wouldn’t it be easier for y’all to have everything in one place?

I mean, it’s enough of a hassle to get all your gear into a single taxi (can’t afford two) before a gig, why add 50 social media tools into the mix? That’s where services like Indaba Music — which is like the class='blippr-nobr'>LinkedInclass="blippr-nobr">LinkedIn of music — come in.

Indaba is a platform — boasting more than 500,000 musicians — that provides musically inclined folks with a place to build a profile, promote their tunes and collaborate with other musicians from around the world.

Why Use This Service?

According to co-founder Dan Zaccagnino, “There are many ways for musicians to make money using Indaba Music. The core of the platform is about collaboration, which can be just for fun, but can also generate income for musicians through work-for-hire sessions (where a musician is paid for his/her tracks) or collaborations where songwriters share in the ownership of the song.”

In addition, Indaba features a ton of contests that “give both amateur and professional musicians a chance to collaborate with world-famous artists and in the process win cash or possibly participate in future royalties if the winners’ material is released,” Zaccagnino says.

What’s the ROI?

“There are incredible opportunities to gain experience on Indaba because the community is full of everyone from amateurs eager to learn, to music educators, to Grammy Award winners,” Zaccagnino says.

“Members learn from one another through contacting and communicating with people online, having music peer reviewed in sessions and contests, learning from master-artists through our Artist-in-Residence programs, taking online video lessons, and much more.

“Education is a big priority for us and it’s been amazing to see that organically happen because musicians are interested in helping one another.”

So Who has Succeeded?

Zaccagnino cites the following examples:

Linkin Park + NoBrain (see above)

Indaba member NoBrain’s mix was included on Linkin Park’s album A Thousand Suns and got the opportunity to collaborate directly with Linkin Park front man, Mike Shinoda, through Indaba Music.

Rivers Cuomo Producer Sessions

Rivers Cuomo of Weezer started a few sessions on IndabaMusic.com and began working with members to produce rough demos that he had written with his wife.  Rivers used Indaba’s session platform to work collaboratively, utilizing the commenting system to engage musicians and achieve exactly what he envisioned.  The producers were also paid for their work.

David Minnick/PBS The Music Instinct

PBS ran a contest to source music for an upcoming show about music and the brain. It found the winner, David Minnick, to be so talented that it hired him to arrange music for another show.

Toshi Osawa and Pikes Peak Ringers – Yo-Yo Ma Collaboration Winners

Yo-Yo Ma was so impressed by the quality of musical collaborations that he picked two winners, an 18-piece hand bell choir from Denver and a speed-Metal guitarist from Canada. Yo-Yo invited them into the studio to record with him in a truly unique collaboration — both tracks were later released as bonus tracks to Yo-Yo Ma’s holiday album, Songs of Joy & Peace.

Partner Up

Service: YouTube’s Musicians Wanted Program

At last year’s SXSW, YouTubeclass="blippr-nobr">YouTube launched a partner program for up-and-coming musicians, and, just recently, the program went from U.S.-only to international.

If you have a YouTube channel, and you’re pumping out the music vids like an A-V nerd on a sugar high, you should apply for this program post haste. Basically, it allows you to make some extra cash by adding ads to your videos and garners you more exposure from YouTube with prime placement.

Why Use This Service?

It’s all about getting your name out there, and getting your music heard, right? So go where the people are. Every day, YouTube racks up more than 2 billion video views. That’s a lot of eyes. Still, every minute, the site sees 24 hours of video uploaded, which means your genius work could get lost in the shuffle. That’s why the partner program is a must — you get the YouTube stamp of approval, which brings more attention to your work.

What’s the ROI?

YouTube couldn’t tell us how much money you can earn from the program, but they did tell us that artists get the majority share of the revenue — not to mention access to those millions of viewers. You need to be consistent with your channel, though, and really focus on putting out lots of original content. So if you’re only down to make one vid, this might not be the option for you. In order to see ROI, you have to put in the time and effort.

So Who has Succeeded?

YouTube has helped launch the careers of score of performers — from Justin Bieber to Pomplamoose./> Kina Grannis is one such artist. “I joined YouTube three years ago when I was in a contest called Doritos Crash The Super Bowl,” Grannis told us. “I needed to get people to vote for me every day in order to get my music video played during the Super Bowl (which it did, woo!), so the hope was that by agreeing to post a new video every day, people, in exchange, would come back and vote daily. This run of putting up a video every day lasted about two months in total, and while it made me crazy and sleep deprived, it was also fun and exciting and very helpful in growing my viewers.

“Post with consistency if possible,” Grannis advises artists. “Be genuine, talk to your supporters, be grateful.”

If You Can’t Beat Them, Join Them

Service: BitTorrent Featured Artist Program

OK, we know what you’re thinking — you hear the word “BitTorrent” and you’re about ready to rage, am I right? File sharing is the monster under the bed for many an artist. It connotes theft, basically. Still, the model — when used correctly — can really be a boon to lesser-known artists.

We spoke to Trent Reznor — who is well-known for having released his music via torrent sites in the past — who told us: “I felt furious when the record I’d worked on for a year, that my heart and soul’s gone into, . I’m pissed off at people that are listening to it. I’m mad that they’re snubbing me — by what? By being excited about hearing my music? And that’s wrong. I shouldn’t be mad at these people. I should be glad that people are interested.”

“Easy for you to say, Trent Reznor,” you might scoff, “You’re already famous.” Well — there’s the rub, right? You’re not famous. And you want to be. Or, at the very least, you want someone other than your roommate to come to your gig — and perhaps buy a T-shirt or two. And how do you do that? By getting the attention of the masses, of course.

Last month, BitTorrent launched a Featured Artist pilot program in an effort to give musicians more exposure. Some likened such an endeavor to getting in bed with the devil, but when you really think about it, what’s the difference between applying for the program and putting your music on class='blippr-nobr'>MySpaceclass="blippr-nobr">MySpace or SoundCloud or any other music-sharing site? Well, that would be BitTorrent’s 80 million users.

We’re not saying that file sharing is totally copacetic or anything (there are a lot of pirates in them waters), but it’s not like BitTorrent is out to ruin your career, either. “In many ways, Trent Reznor’s work inspired a lot of our work,” says CEO Eric Klinker. “We really do want to riff on a lot of what he’s done. He’s in an experimentation phase, as are we.”

Why Use This Service?

“The Featured Artists pilot program encourages musicians and filmmakers to submit creative works for the chance to be spotlighted to millions of BitTorrent users around the world,” Klinker says. “For a lot of artists it is about creating a sustainable business model that will allow them to continue their creative works. So, we are interested in working with artists to experiment with various business models that play to the strengths of the class='blippr-nobr'>Internetclass="blippr-nobr">Internet while allowing them to tune into the distribution potential of BitTorrent to reach millions of consumers.”

What’s the ROI?

“In today’s digital age, the traditional model does not serve artists in the same way it used to, and instead forces them all down the same funnel where only a select few ultimately receive distribution,” Klinker says. “With BitTorrent’s Featured Artist Pilot Program, artists can tap into online communities and reach millions of people who might otherwise be inaccessible. These communities are powerful and provide intrinsic value for emerging artists trying to build a fan base. In doing so, these are fans that will invariably attend shows, purchase merchandise and become invested in future works.”/>  /> So Who has Succeeded?

Since the service just launched last month, there aren’t any featured artists yet, but the site has seen some success with the musician PAZ (see above), who has been working with BitTorrent.

“Most recently, in August 2010, BitTorrent released PAZ’s debut mix tape, Young Broke and Fameless,” Klinker says. “On the first day alone the release saw over 100,000 downloads, and as a result has increased his fan base and following.”

If you are reading this, you are probably familiar on some level with article marketing. You may have even begun to do some article marketing research. But for those who may not know, let's take a quick look at this simple, effective way to earn an income online, then I will give you a simple, A - B - C, step-by-step plan to making money within 7 to 10 days.

There are several ways to make money by writing articles online, but the most common are ...

1 - Affiliate Marketing
There are vendors who will pay you a percentage of their profits to direct customers to their product. This saves them time and money, and multiplies their efforts many times, thus allowing them to reach a massive audience without a financial outlay. They do not pay you until you get a customer to buy from them. There are affiliate marketers who write articles, then submit those articles to article submission sites, blogs and websites. The articles contain a resource box or bio box that contains a link to the vendor's sales page. If a purchase is made, the article writer gets a percentage of the sale, anywhere from 4% from vendors like Amazon, up to a whopping 75% from vendors on sites like Clickbank.

2 - Upfront Payment
This is a great way for article writers to generate instant income. A writer can write articles on popular niches (topics) like "Losing Weight" or "Making Money Online", and then sell those to marketers who need content for websites, blogs and article submission accounts. Many article submission sites also pay upfront for quality content. Payment ranges anywhere from $2 to $30 per article, depending on a wide range of variables.

3 - Performance Payment
A relatively new way of making money from articles is the performance payment. An article is written, and then submitted to article submission sites who offer a specific amount of money per thousand page views. This may sound like pennies, but can actually add up to a nice monthly payment when one hundred or more high quality articles are out there, using keywords with a lot of searches.

As you can see, these three methods all have one thing in common. You have to write articles! When I started out, one article seemed like a lot. Then I did some article marketing research, and discovered that most articles on the internet were between 300 and 500 words. That is because the internet is not like paper article advertising. People want quick, relevant information on the net. This means it is entirely possible to have 100 articles out there earning you money in only a month or two. (I still type with two fingers, and crank out between 5 and 20 articles every day.)

There are literally dozens of article submission sites out there that operate differently. Some offer one form of payment or another, and they are all different. I have found a site that allows you to earn money all three ways at once. Associated Content, the site you are reading this article on, allows you to submit articles for upfront payment and performance payments, while containing a link to a relevant site. In this way, you hit the trifecta! Let me lay out the steps you need to take today to make money within 10 days.

A - Open an account with AssociatedContent.com. This takes all of 5 minutes. It is easy and quick, and you are under no obligation of any kind.
B - Read their Terms of Service. Basically, you want to submit ORIGINAL content that has not been submitted anywhere else, but you need to read the T.O.S. and be familiar with it.
C - Go to clickbank.com and register. They are the largest supplier of digital products in the world, and this is where vendors go to list their e-books for affiliates like you to sell.
D - In article marketing research is everything. Do some keyword research and find terms that are getting searched for 100 or more times a day. There are a lot of other excellent keyword search tools out there, but Google's keyword tool is Free, easy to use, and has all sorts of parameters. Go to Google and type in Keyword Tool to access it. When you type in a keyword, Google will return a listing of related words, and display how many times a month they are searched.
E - Take that keyword back to clickbank and search "the Marketplace". When you find a vendor selling that type of product, click "promote this product", and you will be given the html code you need to add a link to your article. (Many of these vendors have done a lot of article marketing research, and will provide you help to sell their products!)
F - Write a 350 - 500 word article on the keyword phrase you researched, making sure to credit any sources you may have used, and adding your affiliate link at the end.
G - Submit the article to AssociatedContent.com. There are several different submission guidelines, so choose the correct one that allows for upfront payments, and performance payments, and calls for original content.
H - Write a second article, then a third, etc.

That's it! Associated Content generally takes a week to 10 days to review an article. If they turn you down for upfront payment, don't fret. You can still submit for performance payments, and your affiliate link will always be there. And they will tll you exactly what you need to do in the future to be accepted.

Are you tired of not being able to make money online? Are you tired of all the scams and false promises out there? I am! It seems everyone you look online, people are trying to sell info. It seems all these place are really scam artists taking our money. I have even heard horror stories online of people being robbed out thousands of dollars. One case was of a woman that sent 3 thousand dollars to someone just to get an online job! There are many tricks and crooked schemes out there in cyber space. And not many people can be trusted

But what can be do? I know you all want to find some good ways to make money online and or find legit work at home jobs. Well I am here to help you all. I have been making money online with many different programs. These are all free of charge and you don't have to pay any money to start. In fact I don't think anyone should pay money for a job! If someone asks you for money to get a job, just remember they are all scams! I will discuss the best and easiest way to make online income and strategies to make the most money possible. I will also talk about a list some of the best online jobs sites that are legit! That's right, no fees or false promises. Just legit work from home. You can apply and start work and get paid by the hour. Does this sound good to you? Well let's get started and talk about some of the best money making tactics and programs online today.

One of the best ways to make some fast money online is paid to post forums. These are great forums where they pay you anywhere from 1-10 cents per post. Each forum pays you a different amount of money, but they all pay. I have personally gotten paid from these forums myself. I will never list scams or fake companies in my reviews. That is something I promise. One of the best forums for making money online is called Mylot. One this forum you get paid every time you start a topic, or reply to one. You also get paid each time you comment on a topic. You can also make lots of money by posting images to your interests sections. You can either post images you took, or get free ones on the net. The money adds up fast with uploading images. You also get paid when you add an image to a discussion. You might wonder how they can afford to pay us? Well that is easy. They have over 45,000 members now, and they are growing everyday. They get money from google adsense adverting on their site. This allows them to pay all the members. If you are interested in joining mylot go to this link and sign up. http://www.mylot.com/?ref=NeoComp It's free and an easy way for anyone to make money online. They send your money through paypal. Now let's move on to cashposting.com. This is also a pretty good forum as well. They pay 1 cent per post. And I cent per topic. They have been around for a while and they are a great place to make some good money. They have a 10 dollar minimum payout. And you can get paid through paypal. Here is the link to sign up at cashposting forums: http://CashPosting.com/profile.php?mode=register&refer_id=5549
There were a couple of other paid to post forums I was a part of. But they never paid me. So I won't list them here. Although they paid others in the past. They refused to pay me, because I had bad rep. In either case I will only post the forums that are the best and pay all the time.

Another way to make some good money online is advertising. You need to have a website or blog to put ads on your site. I will talk about some different ones and how to make money with them. I will also go over some tactics to really cash in with these companies. Well Most ad companies allow you to put your ads on as many pages and websites. One way to make tons of money is to make lots of websites. Then get lots of traffic to them. You can do this by promoting your sites in forums, or myspace.com. You can also use auto surf program to advertising your sites. It's a free and easy way to promote your sites. I will write another article in the future explain what auto surfs are and how they work, where to sign up. The best type of ads are CPM ads. CPM means you get paid per every 1,000 impressions. An impression means every VIEW the ad gets. This means no one has to click or buy anything using that banner. They simply have to see the ad. And that is easy money. I think it's good to use google adsense and put the setting on images only. I say this because you get a good CPM rate for the image ads. But text ads only pay you if you get clicks. You can also sign up for free and easy ad networks. One of my favorite is advertising pages. The great thing about them is that you don't need to have a domain name. You can use free hosting and your site does not need a certain amount of traffic per month. So this means anyone can join. They make payments every month through Pay Pal. And there is not minimum payout. This is also good because other ad companies have a 50 dollar and up payout. So even if all you make is 1 dollar in the month you get the dollar sent to you paypal account! To sign up for advertising pages go to this link: http://advertising-page.com/index.php?id=3111. Another great thing about this program is you don't even need to have a website! You get your own page you can advertise and get when people see the site. You can also put the site into many auto surfs and make tons of money everyday! Just for sitting back and watching. Now this all takes some time and work to set up. But once It's setup you are ready to go and make some money. This method can be used with google adsense and other CPM networks. If you combine all these ads with lots of sites and auto surfs, you can make some serious money. You can also promote your sites on websites and other places. Just be creative and remember skies the limit!

Now I am going to talk about legit online jobs. The bests jobs are web designer, HTML coders, data entry jobs. I will list all the type of jobs there are online and how to get them. These will all be legit and require no fees at all! Remember if you have to pay for a job it's most likely a scam. You can get a good job doing Research & Ad Testing. There are also Sales and Customer Service jobs. You can also get a job in Data Entry or as a writer. In fact it's pretty ironic how I found Associated Content on that very same legit work at home site. There are also jobs in Web Design and Game Design. You can make money doing photography jobs. Translation and teaching are yet some other jobs you can do. There is Medical Transcription jobs as well. Here is the link to a great site that links all of these legit work at home jobs. There are no fees. But you do have to have certain skills and education for some jobs. But others can be done by anyone. Here is the link: http://www.cjfj.net/id33.html.

I hope this article has showed you some of the online secrets to making money and how to get a real work at home job. I love working from home on my own time and being my own boss. You can also do this! I will be writing more articles about making money online and how to build wealth and invest to make your money grow. I wish you all well and good luck making money online in a legit way!

why internet marketing

Over the last decade, a prolonged magnitude 9.1 technological earthquake completely altered the landscape of online marketing and public relations. The entire topography has shifted from one of cold, repetitive interruption to the gentle, authentic drip of attraction over time.

A large part of navigating this strange, new terrain is the building and care of real relationships. If you enjoy the frustration and futility of beating your head against the abandoned brick walls of how things were, this show is not for you…

In this episode Brian Clark and I discuss:

  • The fundamental foundation of all good marketing

  • Why the traditional “pitch” doesn’t work, and what to do about it

  • The single most important factor in getting online attention

  • How to become a world-class influencer

  • A very popular piece of advice that might just keep you broke

  • The simple truth about building lucrative business relationships

In his best-selling book “Blink,” Malcolm Gladwell made famous the natural human reaction of quickly judging other people.  This behavior is especially true of VCs and angel investors. The first few minutes of an interaction are crucial.

The way an entrepreneur starts an investor pitch meeting can actually determine their success in that meeting.  Those first 10-15 minutes, where the entrepreneur presents himself or herself – before they even present the idea – establish not only credibility, but the right to continue to pitch to an engaged audience.

Yet, it is amazing to me how few entrepreneurs start investor meetings crisply and confidently.  The formula for the start of the meeting is almost always the same – you are trying to answer the simple question on the mind of the investors:  Who are you and why are you here?  But when asked to review their backgrounds, entrepreneurs often fumble through incoherently, or ramble on tangents that aren’t relevant to the situation.

So, how should you start an investor meeting?  It’s as simple as ABC:  Always Be Credible.  Investors are looking for credibility: Can we trust that you have a uniquely good idea or insight? Are you capable of executing on it? And are you the real deal or full of bluster and BS?

When you talk to investors and ask about this opening gambit from entrepreneurs, you hear a consistent pattern about why they like a certain entrepreneur they’ve invested in. When you distill the inputs into a coherent pattern, here are the top three things entrepreneurs should do:

Be genuine and personable – Let your personality show, professionally of course.  At some point in the introduction, say something that makes you smile, which will make those around you smile.  If you don’t engage your audience, they’ll jump to their Blackberries.

For example, ZestCash CEO/co-founder Douglas Merrill is a charming character and, even putting aside the shoulder-length hair and tattoos, you can’t help but smile when he introduces his background (raised dyslexic in Arkansas, followed an unlikely path of earning a Princeton PhD, leading Google engineering and IPO in his role as CIO for 5 years, and now has developed a vision to transform short-term consumer credit by blending online data with traditional underwriting techniques).

Be crisp and on point – The most compelling background speeches are crisp, straightforward and demonstrate relevant links to the opportunity at hand.  SaveWave CEO/co-founder Dave Rochon, for example, gave the following brief narrative when pitching investors:  “I worked at Catalina Marketing for 10 years in sales and launched their Internet couponing business, then joined Upromise the year it was founded and built the grocery business for 10 years, serving for three years as president after the acquisition by Sallie Mae. I now want to transform the online and mobile grocery coupon business.”

Dave’s Series A round was way over-subscribed by folks like First Round, Ron Conway, Roger Ehrenberg, Founder Collective and I think it’s in no small part because his background and delivery were so crisp and relevant.

Keep it short. I find that the more impressive the entrepreneur, the shorter the introduction.  The worst situation is when, 20 minutes into the presentation, the entrepreneur is still bragging about some random product they launched in a completely irrelevant industry sector.

By that point, the VCs are already hitting their Blackberries and wondering how they can end the meeting gracefully.  Worse, still: You run out of time to actually pitch the big idea.  Meandering introductions are the death of a pitch.

Wondering what you should avoid when you launch a pitch? Here are three things:

Do not exaggerate. Assume that everything you say will be thoroughly checked out in due diligence.  If you claim credit for a company where you played a small role, it’s bad form.  I recently called the CEO of a company that an entrepreneur bragged they had led during the pitch.  When the CEO told me they were a minor player and left after a brief two years, I stopped spending any more time evaluating the opportunity.

Remember, investors are professional BS detectors.  Err on the side of underselling your background because the BS alarm bells may ring in the first few minutes of introduction and spoil the rest of the presentation.

There’s no “I” in team. When entrepreneurs talk about themselves in grandiose terms in their introductions, it’s usually a sign of egotism.  When entrepreneurs talk about the teams they built and the smart people that somehow they were able to convince to join them in their cause, it’s a sign of great leadership.  Guess which of these two profiles investors are more attracted to?

Don’t name drop. Some investors are notorious namedroppers, so this is a bit of the pot calling the kettle black, but investors get very turned off when entrepreneurs name drop in their introductions.

We don’t need to hear every famous person you’ve met or pitched or worked with.  Establishing a few common points of contact is a good thing.  Acting like you are best friends with folks who wouldn’t recognize you if you bumped into them in the grocery store on a Sunday afternoon is not recommended.

Remember, be credible, humble and specific and you’ll do fine.  Take the 5-10 minutes time to establish that initial credibility, and then move on.  Investors like to back great people, so spend as much time thinking about how to present yourself in a compelling fashion as you would your idea.

Being an Internet Marketer is the best job I have ever had. Granted, I have not had a ton of jobs on account of the fact that I am still a full-time graduate student, but I love my non-traditional career choice and could not be happier with the decisions I have made. I love crawling out of bed in the morning, going to my computer and seeing that I made money while I was sleeping. I love being my own boss and not having to answer to, or work for someone else.

I am a graduate student in marketing and I would likely be able to get a job that pays around $65,000 a year working upwards of 50 hours a week the first few years. (These numbers are essentially an average from the graduating classes the last couple of years). But why would I want to work a standard 9-5 doing a job for someone else and getting paid a tiny fraction of what the boss gets? The answer is that I would not and that is why I chose to become an online marketer.

There is a common misconception that you can get rich quick online, and that is not true. It takes a lot of work, and there are weeks that I put in more than 50 hours a week, but the best part about is that most of the things I do and the projects I participate with keep generating residual income long after I am done with them.

Lets say I create my own project in a particular niche. I design a website with some really good content for that niche and send highly targeted traffic to that website. I am getting advertising revenue from people clicking on ads on my site, and they are also purchasing my product. And by that time, guess what? I am already off creating my next profitable project.

Another GREAT thing about being an Internet marketer is that it is very inexpensive to start your business. You can by domains, hosting, graphics, an autoresponder, etc. for all relatively cheap as opposed to buying a lot for a building and other expensive things you would need for a 'traditional' business.

Another thing to think about is the ability to network online. It is VERY hard for most people working 9-5 jobs to have access to the CEOs of fortune 500 companies, but I have discussed, a number of times, internet marketing with some of the top online gurus that exist. The Internet makes this a lot more possible. What better way to get tips and learn new techniques to succeed? What a valuable resource.

In conclusion, do not be scared of taking a chance. Start your own online business on the side and work on it a couple of hours after work instead of watching television, dabble with it on the weekends, and learn everything you can about it. If you start to succeed you might want to consider it full-time so you can stick it to "the man." So many people are scared to risk that 9-5 job they do not even like because of security, but after they witness that money flowing in while they are sleeping, they might change their mind and become an Internet Marketer!
